The Unknowns Production Diary no. 1 and Pinup

Feast your eyes on my first promo shot for THE UNKNOWNS my graphic novel project launching next year.  I wanted to color it (which I may still do) but in the end I wanted to show my black and white line work as this book will be presented in glorious black and white.

On the production side I figured I would share with you all how I have approached this book.  One of the things I just struggled over and over with while working on my book Kevin and the Light of Destiny was not having a script locked and in place.  Well, with this book, and no web deadlines, I took the time to write the whole script.  That script took me aprox 8 drafts to get altogether and maybe four months of work if you put in my previous writing time before coming back to it.

What this afforded me was to look at the story from a macro level and see if its working or not.  With confidence that my script was solid, I went in to break downs on the script.  Breakdowns for me, are going through my script, which is written screenplay format, and break it into panels and pages.  I figure out my pacing here and make sure the script makes sense as a comic.  Here’s a shot of what my page looks like.  I highlight each new page so I can keep the page separation and panel separation clear in my head as I work.

From here I will be seperating those breakdowns into pencils/thumbnails.  I will share more with that next time.  Let me know what you think of the PINUP!
