Unknowns Production Blog: Flats and Digital Inks

So I figure I would let the cat out of the bag a bit because it might be helpful for others to know.  I sent a pitch out for The Unknowns about a month ago and to my great pleasure, the agent I contacted liked the book!  But there’s more work to do.  One of the requests I was given was to produce some more completed color pages for our pitch and that meant doing a lot of work very quickly (my self imposed deadlines).  So I have been busy for the past two weeks with flatting comics pages, with the help of my friends Andy Gaskin and Nick Perkins.  I have about 24 pages that need to be color flatted and then colored.  Things are moving swiftly.  I also decided to add in an additional 8 pages of completed art from the original pitch to round out the characters and give some more context to them. For these pages I decided I would try again to go back to…. digital inking!

I decided to go ahead and update my Manga Studio software to the EX version almost entirely because of the perspective tool.  There is a lot of perspective in this sequence and the help from it is much appreciated.  It’s been a bit tricky getting the new inked pages to look like the older ones but I think they are holding up OK. I would really love a Cintiq for this though, but so far so good!

So that’s the update.  Lots going on and the book is moving along.  I can’t wait to share more of this with you and see where things go!
