Every Ending Is Something Else’s Beginning

Today I finished the pencils and inks for chapter 2 of Adamsville.  I had a feeling I could plow through the chapter fairly quickly.  It’s the shortest of the four chapters, clocking in at 25 pages.  The above image is the Manga Studio story file for the last 15 pages of the chapter which is what I inked in the computer.  I inked the first ten pages the old school way.  I don’t really see much of a difference in my inks between the two versions, so I don’t think it will matter much.  But inking digitally has been a great decision.  It really allows me to compose shots better, add the detail to the backgrounds I would like and make quick edits.

Orginally I was working on a three completed pages goal per week. Meaning I would pencil, ink, flat, color and letter three pages in their entirety per week.  It was burning me out for whatever reason.  I find I work best breaking up work into clumps.  It’s also helpful to go this route because you can see the “story” finished in the inks, after the lettering is added.  Which lets me know if anything needs to be fixed.  So this upcoming week I will be starting to flat and color the rest of the chapter.  19 pages left to flat and color.

I started the story file in Manga Studio for chapter 3 and it’s intimidating me!

At thirty five pages its the biggest chapter so far and definitely the most complicated visually.  Each chapter has posed it’s own challenges and this one will be the one I think I will grow the most in making.

So work continues on.  I’ve been off work all week and chugging right along.  So I think for the rest of the week I will kick back a bit and rest with my family.  Do some art for fun and be prepared to come back with a vengeance in 2012! My goal is to get this thing done as fast as possible in the new year.  Not setting any other standard than its completion.  Wish me the best! 🙂

What are you guys aiming for in the new year?
