As all of you know, I \u00a0have been diligently working towards a goal of completing a pitch for my book\u00a0 The Unknowns.\u00a0 I finished it last week .\u00a0 Well I got word back yesterday from the agent\u00a0I had been talking with that she decided to pass on the book.\u00a0 It was a very nice experience all in all and if any of you are seeking representation, I really recommend seeking her out.\u00a0 Her name is Bernadette Baker-Baughman.\u00a0 Very nice lady.<\/p>\n
When something you were pushing so hard on doesn’t pan out, it causes you to level set again.\u00a0 I’ve been in a tug-o-war about what to do with project, laregly due to the pitching process as well as potentially hitting comic cons with the book next year.\u00a0 I’m pretty sure what I will be doing next with it, but I am writing this post to talk with all of you about the struggle of making comics and art in general.<\/p>\n
It’s hard business.\u00a0 Hard I tell you.\u00a0 I don’t think you need me to remind you just how hard it is.\u00a0 Just the simple creation of the piece of art is hard, then you show it to people.\u00a0 And that’s hard because you have to grow as an artist and you may not be there yet or whatever the case may be.\u00a0 We wrap so much of ourselves up in the art we make.\u00a0 It’s hard to pick yourself up again.\u00a0 But you have to.\u00a0 The best thing you can do for youself is focus on improving, pushing your ability, do the things you can do to make yourself a better craftsman.\u00a0 You CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT be so focused on business or making money (preaching to myself here too)\u00a0that you put that ahead of your growth in this area.\u00a0 Good work finds a way through.\u00a0 And if you are world class at your talent… well it works itself out.<\/p>\n
So lift your head up out there guys.\u00a0 Explore your craft.\u00a0 Push yourself.\u00a0 Focus on what you can control: making the art and improving.\u00a0 Put the work out there.\u00a0 Let people watch you grow.\u00a0\u00a0 You will eventually start to break down some walls.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Get back to work.<\/p>\n
