{"id":1179,"date":"2012-05-10T14:20:09","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T14:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adamsvillecomic.com\/?p=1083"},"modified":"2012-05-10T14:20:09","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T14:20:09","slug":"how-i-make-a-page-of-adamsville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.michaeleregina.com\/blog\/how-i-make-a-page-of-adamsville\/","title":{"rendered":"How I Make A Page of Adamsville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I thought I would walk you through how I make a page of Adamsville.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t want to give away much of the context of this page, gotta keep my spoilers low, but here we go!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Page071-rough-pencils.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1086\" title=\"Page071-rough-pencils\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Page071-rough-pencils.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First things first, I go through my script and do a pretty standard thumbnail of the page I will be doing.\u00a0 Then I do a very loose pencil rough of that page, which is above.\u00a0 I draw these roughs on\u00a0a sheet of 8.5&#215;11 paper\u00a0 that has a template on it for each page.\u00a0 Which you can find\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaeleregina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/comic-pages-layout.pdf\">HERE<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page071-inks.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1085\" title=\"page071-inks\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page071-inks.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After I am done with the rough I scan that in and resize it to fit the final page size within the program, <a href=\"http:\/\/manga.smithmicro.com\/\">Manga Studio EX<\/a>.\u00a0 I then go to town, inking the mess out of that page!\u00a0 I started inking all digitally about six months ago when\u00a0I got frustrated with the flexibility of the\u00a0analog\u00a0brushes and tools I was working with.\u00a0 I highly recommend this program.\u00a0 This page was a challenge because of the space the characters are in.\u00a0 Lots of perspective lines and all.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page071-flats.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1084\" title=\"page071-flats\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page071-flats.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After that I do a process called color flatting, in Photoshop.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a fairly analog process, but it sets the page up to be colored more easily.\u00a0 If you are interested in learning this process more, you can see a great tutorial from Kazu Kibuishi on his blog, right <a href=\"http:\/\/boltcity.com\/workshop\/amulet\/flatting\/\">HERE<br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page0711.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1090\" title=\"page071\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adamsvillecomic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/page0711.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lastly I color the piece in Photoshop.\u00a0 I use a number of custom brush settings I have aquired over the years or learning how to do this better.\u00a0 BUt I aim to add mood, atmospheric lighting and texture to help the space feel as real as a make believe place in a comic can be!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hope you&#8217;ve enjoyed this walkthrough.\u00a0 Right now I am right on track to be finished with this book by August.\u00a0 So close I can taste it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I thought I would walk you through how I make a page of Adamsville.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t want to give away much of the context of this page, gotta keep my spoilers low, but here we go!
